[Terminé] Renault D2 - 1e série 1/35

This is my first posting so please forgive my clumsiness with the format. I hope this is not too many photos
Here is my rendition of the Renault D2. It is based on the Azimut hull, but it is 90% scratch-built. The tracks are from the Blitz kit and the turret modified from the Tamiya B1 bis. I made masters of the suspension and had the parts cast in resin.

I do not wish to offend, but I curse the designer of the black "liners" of French camouflage.
These lines took more than 50 hours to paint - yes, I am a slow builder and painter.

I am happy to post more photos, especially of the work in progress, if it is not too much.

I discovered that the Tamiya B1 bis turret was close to an APX1, so I used it as a start. I altered the contours around the gun mantels and hatch, removed the AA mount, added the rear visor, and re-positioned the cupola and lift hooks.

For the casting seam I glue a thin strip of .005" styrene, and while the plastic is still soft I roll it with the knurled end of a pin vice, followed with light sanding.

The turret ring was tall, almost a pedestal. It was built up in layers.

The cupola was also modified from the Tamiya B1 bis. This required reshaping the top and extending the rear for the diascope, plus improving the side shutter.

We mock the Germans over engineering things but the MG’s mantlet is a circus of asymmetrical compound curves, angles and openings - mon Dieu!

The Chrétien diascopes were scratched . . . I was surprised by how well they turned out.

I build the Azimut kit years ago, some work to be done but ends with a nice model.

On the engine deck I repaired the grills, and added the fuel cover and the tool rack.

The stern details were complicated, especially the jack mount. I modified the tow pintle from Tamiya's S35 kit.
